Jobs Are Highest Priority for Likely 2012 Voters

A poll of likely voters in the 2012 presidential election commissioned by a manufacturers’ group finds that creating jobs is more important for Congress and the President than reducing the deficit. Sponsored by the Washington-based Alliance for American Manufacturing, it finds that 67% of respondents said they prefer that politicians focus on employment. 62% of participants in the study said the U.S. isn’t the world’s strongest economy. This result is up 50% from the group’s findings in 2010.

– 42% said Obama isn’t helping to help create jobs, compared with 50% for Democrats and 60% for Republicans.

– 50% said Obama is doing “a great deal” to help create American manufacturing jobs, compared with 41% for Democrats in Congress and 32% for Republicans.

– 39% said China has the top economy, increasing from 36% from last year. China remains the largest foreign holder of U.S. debt with $1.16 trillion, according to the US Treasury.
