A recent Brookings Institution report cites 2.7 million green jobs in America. These jobs pay an average salary of $44,000. That’s $6,000 more than the average salary of jobs in the U.S. But the broad definition of a ‘green job’ makes it difficult to get accurate statistics. As these jobs range from wind turbine plant workers, to organic farmers, to subway conductors. Interestingly, the study found “green collar” have a relatively lower education level. 47% of green jobs requiring a high school degree or less, while the nation’s average is 37%.
