It’s common for job seekers to feel nervous before a big job interview. Worries and anxiety start to creep in as the day nears. We begin to worry about how well-prepared we are or if we will be able to arrive there on time. Instead of working yourself up into a frenzy though, here are three ways to eliminate job interview stress.
Plan Ahead
Job seekers should plan ahead in order to eliminate job interview stress. This means you should determine how long it’ll take you to get to the office and exactly how you will get there. Pick out your outfit for the job interview the night before and have it ready to go in the morning. Relax the night before by going out with friends to unwind and avoid thinking about the job interview. The more you think about it, the more stress you’ll place upon yourself.
Research
Do your research on the organization you will be interviewing with well in advance. The earlier you do this, the more time you have to remember the information and come up with good questions to ask. The more prepared job seekers are for the job interview, the less stress they will feel. Make yourself note cards with what you have prepared to say to the interviewer when you introduce yourself. You can also jot down answers to typical interview questions so you are ready to answer them if they come up.
Get Enough Sleep
Eliminate stress the morning of your interview by getting enough sleep and eating a good breakfast. Give yourself enough time to get ready for the job interview as a way to avoid rushing yourself out the door. Listen to music on your way to the interview either in your car or on your iPod while you ride public transportation- music is known to be soothing.
Once you arrive at the job interview and you’re waiting for your name to be called, take this time to relax and breathe. You’ve made it this far and you’ve done all the preparation that was needed. All that is left is to let your preparation shine through during the job interview. If your body is tense try to relax as best you can. The more you relax your body, the more you yourself will feel less stressed. Remember, most of the stress you feel is caused by your own insecurities, so make yourself more self-confident by giving yourself more credit when it comes to having a successful job interview.
