If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a million times, (well OK maybe not, but I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again!) video resumes are the perfect way to sell yourself in your job search. So who better to use a video resume to sell his or herself than a sales representative? That’s right, probably no one. Video resumes are excellent tools for sales representatives in the job search.
Sales representatives have a tough job search. Sure, it isn’t the job field with the worst rate of unemployment- in fact U.S. News & World Report ranked sales representatives the No. 20 overall best job in 2012- but with so much personality to compete with how do you set yourself apart in the job search?
That’s where video resumes come into the picture. Video resumes let sales representatives portray themselves in a more accurate light than a traditional resume. Many sales representatives will spend the majority of their time in client interaction situations. Traditional print resumes, while very helpful, simply cannot show potential employers your personality or pitching capabilities as well as a video resume.
On top of being able to pitch your personality, video resumes show potential employers your comfort in using video technology. In the job search, it’s not just about what you have done but you can do. As technology progresses video interviewing will continue to root itself into the business world. Take for instance this article which demonstrates how Bank of New Zealand was able to manipulate video technology to help serve its small business customers. While the article demonstrates how bankers work with clients, the model can be applied, and probably will be applied, to sale representatives in the future. Staying on top of industry trends, and proving you have the capability to effectively communicate through the medium of video is another way to set yourself apart from everyone else in the job search.
So why not create a dynamic video resume for your job search as a sale representative? It’s the obvious choice, and may soon not even present a choice. It makes sense for the sales industry to encourage video resumes, so why not be ahead of the trend?
