How to Interview Like Nicki Minaj

She is one of the biggest and most popular pop/rap stars on the planet right now. She’s a chart topping, fast rapping and over-the-top fashion icon. Many people are in love with her original style- a blend of Barbie meets harajuku madness. Her songs are infectious and can get you moving. Take some tips from Nicki based on her stand-out style and personality to make yourself stand out in your job interview.

When you hear about Nicki Minaj, the first thing that comes to mind is her style. Her style competes with Lady Gaga’s and is a bit strange- but certainly unique. Nicki dresses herself up in puffy candy colored skirts, bright pink lipstick and an array of colorful wigs. For Nicki, it’s all about bright colors. When it comes to dressing for an interview, try to incorporate a bright, fun color. You can do this by wearing a bright-colored scarf or handbag. It’s best to stay away from bright nail polish in a job interview so as not to look juvenile. Adding a pop of bright color in your clothes can help you stand out though. You can also stand out in an interview in a more subtle way by wearing a unique piece of jewelry. This can also make for a great conversation starter if the interviewer or employer notices it and asks.

Nicki likes to be original and her message to her fans is to be yourself. Show your originality by letting your personality shine through during a job interview. Take another tip from Nicki and exude confidence. Be the star of your job interview by giving good answers to questions and basing them on your own personal work experience. Draw on your strengths and let the employer know what you can offer to the organization. Show the employer or hiring manager that you’re a valuable asset by telling them what it is about you that makes you different from other candidates.

Once you have the style, confidence and originality set it’s time to focus on your voice. Nicki is known for her unique rapping style that can be British, sweet, soft-spoken or aggressive depending on the type of song. For your interview, think about how you want your voice to sound to the employer and practice it. You should focus on making your voice project confidence. For people that get nervous during interviews, your voice can sound shaky or soft. You should work on making your voice match your best self to give the best impression to an employer.

Once you have the voice down, you’ve been fully Nicki Minaj-ed, or at least as Nicki Minaj-ed as you can be for a formal job interview. You can celebrate after the interview by blasting music from Nicki tunes, and thank her a little bit, but mostly yourself for landing that job!
