How to Get Through the Monday Woes

The weekend is over, and the work week begins with the dreadful Monday. Monday is the worst day of the week simply because we have to go back into work-mode after 48 hours of fun weekend time. It’s hard to transition at times. Mondays make us tired, depressed and anxious. You can’t avoid Mondays, but you can go through them in a manner that will make them more tolerable.

On Sunday, prepare yourself for the work week that lies ahead. Plan your Monday ahead of time. Go to bed early to ensure you wake up less groggy. Plan out your outfit for the day and make it a good one- I’ve found this to help me. Having a good outfit to wear is something that will make me look forward to waking up the next day. Also, think about the good things that come with the work week instead of the bad. Make a list if you have to. That way, you can look over it Monday morning. This will lift your spirits and encourage you to walk into the office Monday morning beaming.

Come Monday morning, refresh yourself with coffee or tea or whatever you drink that will calm you and prepare you for your day. Treat yourself on this day as a way to make the day special instead of dreadful. Ease into the day by taking the morning at a slow pace. Read up on emails, the news, and blogs that will recharge your imagination. Be friendly and greet everyone you can because if you try to make Mondays better everyone will soon follow suit.

When lunchtime hits, go out for lunch instead of staying in. The walk outside to your car will energize you and socializing with your fellow coworkers will cheer you up. Catch up on what you all did over the weekend over lunch. If you don’t feel like spending money by going out to eat, then do something else while eating at your desk that isn’t work related. The point here is to take a break from work. Read up on a favorite book of yours or listen to some music.

Once you return from lunch, kick start into your work. Start on the difficult tasks now to get them out of the way. Holding them off will make your Friday unbearable, and we all know Friday’s are the best workdays. So don’t ruin your Friday; start on the big projects first on Monday and you’ll be glad you did. Before you start working, make sure your desk is clear of any clutter that will distract you. Having a clean and organized desk will make you feel less stressed.

Have a positive attitude throughout the day. Don’t think about how it’s Monday. Instead, take everything that comes with Monday and look at it on a lighter note. A smile is all it takes to make you feel less burdened by a Monday and it’ll cheer up your coworkers too. If you have trouble concentrating, sit up straight. This is known to make you pay better attention. Utilize all these small tips and it’ll make a big difference on how you view Mondays.
