There are many things to take into consideration when deciding on whether or not to accept a job offer. Distance, pay, benefits, location, familial obligations and numerous other factors come into play. As a job seeker myself, I have turned down many a job for reasons such as pay or location. Sometimes a job is just not worth driving 20 miles out of your way if your paycheck alone will have to cover your gas expenses. However, there are definitely times when there are job offers you just can’t pass up.
Part Time Jobs
Have you become bored at your current job? Does every day feel never-ending? Maybe it’s time to consider a career change. Not everyone can financially afford to just up and quit their job to pursue their dream career however. Chasing your dreams is nice and all, but there are still bills to pay. If this is your case, why not try for a part time job in the field you’re looking to go into. It will give you a taste of what will come and will not interfere with your current work. This is definitely one type of job offer you can’t pass up.
Your Dream Job
Speaking of dropping everything and pursuing your dreams, if you are offered your dream job, take it. If it’s the kind of job that you’ve waited for, poured your blood, sweat and tears into obtaining and it is finally within reach, take it. We have all had jobs where we’ve obtained them just to pass the time or because no one else would hire us and we really needed a paycheck. Most of the time, these jobs are just stepping stones to what you really want to do. If your dream is on the line, consider it a job offer you can’t pass up.
Financial Reasons
On the flip side, if you’ve spent months, maybe even years looking for work and it seems as if nobody will hire you, taking a job that is offered to you is probably a good decision. It might not be something you love, or even like, but a job is a job. If it will get you by for the time being, there is nothing wrong with taking a job for the sake of a paycheck.
So remember these things the next time you’re thinking about a job offer. Whether it’s your dream job or just something for the moment, there are some job offers you can’t pass up.
