Video Can Vamp Up Resumes for Communcation Jobs

With so many people applying for available jobs, it’s easy to get lost in the sea of resumes. Words on paper certainly have their benefits- I should know, I’m a writer- but in certain instances, being able to showcase your personality and communication skills counts for more than any words on paper ever could. In fact, one of my good friends recently found an awesome job, applied for it, snagged an interview and got the job. After talking to him about how it went he said, and I quote, “the only thing that matters is what you say and do in the interview.” He told me about how great his interview went and how, specifically, that is what got him his awesome job.

What I said though, is that you can’t get an interview unless you first impress them with a good resume. He took a second, thought about it and said, “yeah….yeah, you’re right.” Well, I know that Aaron, thank you! However, going back to what I said earlier, words on paper sometimes just aren’t enough. What if you could somehow show a company your communication skills and vibrant personality in a video that compliments your resume? It sounds like a great idea and public relations specialists, real estate agents and other jobs that require advanced communications skills could benefit greatly from it. Well, I am here to tell you that it is real and can be completed in no time at all.

If you are a frequent Spark News reader, as you should be, then you no doubt have extensive knowledge as to what Spark Hire is and what kind of service we provide. With video integration, you can record a 60 second video on Spark Hire where you can show companies your heightened communications skills and shining personality. For jobs such as a public relations specialist that require you to have very advanced communications skills and a somewhat bubbly personality, a video resume could be just the thing that sets you above the competition and really gets companies interested in you as a potential employee.

Below are a list of some specific job titles that could greatly benefit from supplementing a resume with video. They are positions that rely heavily on the communication skills of the person and usually require you to be personable with a fiery, bubbly personality. If you are searching for jobs like this, then you should consider creating a Spark Hire Profile today so you can start sending companies your video along with your resume.

Public Relations Specialist
I mentioned this particular position a great deal in this post and that’s because it truly is a position where communication skills are a must. Usually, a personable character and bubbly personality are strong traits of those that work in this position as well. This is mostly because a PR specialist is the person responsible for representing the image of a business or organization. They have to constantly communicate with media as well as the consumers that use their company’s product or service. Being able to show that you have these skills is definitely needed in the job search process for this position.

Recruiter
A recruiter is someone hired by a recruiting company to find and hire qualified candidates. Their job consists of communicating with an array of people including managers, companies and job seekers. It is their job to find other companies the candidates they need in order to fill their available positions. Without communications skills, you would likely be a sub-par recruiter.

Sales Positions
It’s no secret that in order to be a savvy salesperson, you need to be gifted in language manipulation. Good salesmen and women are fast talkers and can use their communication skills to sell a ketchup Popsicle to a woman in white gloves, to quote Tommy Boy. In all seriousness though, without communication skills a salesman would be lost, and broke.

Real Estate Agent
Real estate agents need to be able to show a somewhat decent property to a potential buyer and make it seem like the best piece of property they have ever seen in their life. It may sound a bit dramatic, but these agents are representing either the buyer or the seller in a property transaction. Sometimes, these agents have to sell land with absolutely nothing built on it. Without heightened communication skills, it would be difficult to sell a piece of unfinished land to anyone. However, these people to it everyday and they aren’t relying on pretty pictures to do it. They use mostly their communication skills to gain the buyer or seller’s trust, paint a pretty picture for them in their head and eventually, if they’re good, sell or buy the property.
